Join Dr. Guy Prouty, an archaeologist, for an inspirational look back into the foundations of yogic thought and practice. Tantra is a methodology for the transformation of consciousness that has ancient roots and that has evolved over time, maintaining adjustment with the needs of the age. This course explores the prehistoric and historic development of Tantra and yoga. We will first investigate how prehistoric cultures of Central Asia, the Indus Valley, Tibet, and India originated tantric practices. Next, we will explore the migration of Indo-Aryan peoples into India and the interface of their Vedic spiritual tradition with the indigenous Tantra. We will then look at Tantra’s relationship to Vedaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism. Exploring the history of Tantra and yoga will deepen your understanding of these powerful, life-fulfilling practices and appreciation of their relevance to the present.
