Let Us Move Together

Course details: 90 free program

Description: This program is open to everyone begins with the singing together of uplifting, spiritual songs leading into a short silent meditation. The meditation will be followed by the presentation.

This month’s Program: “Practicing the Presence of God”

Presenter for this month's program: Chris Simmonds (aka Chandranath)

The spiritual journey involves the transformation of human consciousness from a small sense self to a state of unity with all; to experience oneself and all other beings and things as expressions of one source; one cosmic consciousness.

Different traditions use different methods for achieving this. In the Ananda Marga tradition we use both sitting meditation and active meditation. This active meditation is a type of mindfulness practice where one pauses briefly upon meeting others or upon commencing an action to ascribe divinity to the other or to the action.

This practice is sometimes called Guru Mantra or Madhu Vidya (honey knowledge). Developing this practice can be a challenge but many find personal ways of implementing it that become rewarding and transformative.

During this session we will ask participants to share what is working for them; how they adapt and use this practice to expand their minds and open their hearts.

Please join us and share your story. Prepare to be inspired!

Facilitator:

Chandranath, aka Chris Simmonds, has been meditating for many decades and still hasn’t reached enlightenment; but it doesn’t mean he’s stopped trying. Chris leads group meditations and classes in Ottawa, the capital of Canada, where he lives and works.

This month’s Program: Prabháta Samgiita Program

Join us for Iowa City author Andy Douglas (Alok) as he reads from:

Songs of the New Dawn: Selected song-poems of Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar.

"Andy Douglas's stirring 'transpirations' echo a world of transcendental beauty. These poems bring to an English-speaking audience some of the 5018 Bengali songs composed by Shrii Prabhát Ranjan Sarkar between 1982 and 1990, songs that came to be known as Prabháta Samgiita, Songs of a New Dawn. An extraordinary spiritual master, Shrii Sarkar once defined mysticism as 'the never-ending endeavor to find a link between the finite and the infinite.' Each song glows with this spirit of ceaseless search, and Douglas's renditions beautifully capture the delicacy of feeling and simplicity of the original Bengali."

- Dr. Ayesha Irani, Assoc Prof of Asian Studies, UMass Boston

Andy Douglas is a writer and musician, and has been a student of P R Sarkar's teachings for 40 years. He holds an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from University of Iowa. He is the author of The Curve of the World: Into the Spiritual Heart of Yoga, and Redemption Songs: A Year in the Life of a Community Prison Choir.
